If you use a curling or straightening iron at home to style your hair, a hot iron holster could be a useful tool. Do you need one for travel? Let me digress and admit that I’m a sucker for all the playful new kitchen products made of silicone that come in bright colors (see my slide show on Life Goes Strong.)
This same heat resistant material has now been cleverly crafted into a pocket to hold a hot iron. The new product, just introduced last month at the International House and Housewares Show, effortlessly hangs over and clings to any smooth bathroom surface made of tile, wood, laminate, granite, metal, glass, vinyl, porcelain or plastic. I tried the sample I was recently sent on my bathroom sink counter and it worked like a gem.
It does solve a problem. When I use a hot iron, I always worry about burning whatever  surface I place it on—during warm up, cool down, or when resting the iron while in use. It also allows you to alternately use a blower and hot iron, and have a place to rest one or the other in-between.
It’s especially useful if you have a pedestal sink without any space to place your hair accessories.  The holster provides a reliable, safe place to stow the hot iron and protects you from accidently burning your hand or fingers when lifting it. After you’re finished styling your hair and the iron’s cooled off, it’s easy to remove the holster and stash it in cabinet. It comes in four colors: basic black and white—as well as more playful hues of pink and purple.
It’s suggested as a travel accessory. While that’s plausible, I’m extremely cautious about adding one more thing to the long list of “must take†items I bring on my trips. It would actually be nice to find one waiting for me in a hotel. Even nicer: Finding a hotel where you don’t have to bring your own hot iron.
